Saintpaulia (commonly known as African violet) is native to Tanzania and adjacent southeastern Kenya in eastern tropical Africa. It has been wildly popular since its introduction to plant enthusiasts in the late 1900s. If properly nurtured, it will flower for 2 months at a time three or four times a year. The pinks and purples are the most popular but it also comes in white and blue.
